Since the start of the website in February 2004, I’ve often toyed with the idea of adding a French news feed.  Most of the articles you’ll find in the website, as indeed my blog are focused on the French Riviera and its gentler relaxed way of life.  This is not to show things through rose-tinted glasses or deny that politics, crime and poverty don’t happen in this part of France because they do and always have.  I just feel that the website should be where you can dream a little if you want to, revisit old sites if you’ve been here and read about those you want to see when you do visit.

But for those of you who would like a more in-depth view of France I’ve come across some websites you might like to look at.

The Paris-based correspondent for The Times, Charles Bremner, has an interesting blog on French current affairs which makes for a lively and good read. He updates it every couple of days, and writes easy-to-read but intelligent pieces that will keep you abreast of events going on in France.

Another site I thought particularly good was Lost in France and aimed at people living in France, moving to France, French property and holidays in France. I loved the fresh clean lines of the website, articles, news coverage and especially their weather page.

The newly launched 24-hour news channel, France24, has an interesting and clearly laid out website to accompany it with special reports, the week in review, presenter blogs and a special “Welcome to France” section that will keep you distracted for hours.

Lastly, you may like to take a look at Topix.net. Founded in 2002, its strength lies in pulling together news items from thousands of sources around the net. Their French news items are continually updated and can be quickly and easily sorted by date or by relevance which I thought was pretty nifty.

Happy browsing!
