A French survey in 2005 to find out the most important character in French history by Sunday newspaper 'Journal du dimanche' saw voters picking out Charles de Gaulle as the winner with 39% of votes. He was followed by Napoléon with 18% and Charlemagne with 13%. The only female was Jeanne d'Arc with 6%. |
