The Author: Carol Drinkwater I couldn't help being impressed and inspired by the courageous and sometimes dangerous journey made by Carol Drinkwater round the Mediterranean, across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa in search of the origin of the olive tree. It was clear she had put a lot of research into her quest; as well as an exciting account of her adventures, throughout is interesting information on the history and politics of the places she visits. I liked her sense of direction, following 'clues' to help her choose her next destination made it seem so exciting to me. The style of writing was highly descriptive and detailed, which at times I found slowed the pace of the storytelling. This for me made it the kind of book that I would read a little of, then come back to later and read a little more, rather than being completely gripped and not being able to put it down. This was by no means a negative point as her sensitive and detailed descriptions give the reader a clear image of the fascinating destinations on her route.
