Letter to the Editor: How to get added to the site?

E-mail Print PDF

Dear Alice,

My name is Paul Manion - and I operate a rental agency in Nice - and would be very interested in adding my site to your site (which is very impressive). Can you please advise how I would go about doing this.

Best regards,

Paul Manion

Alice Barker replies:

Dear Paul,

It is very straight forward to be added to our website and totally free too. To be entered in our A-Z Directory, all I need is a description of your company or services along with either a logo or image you'd like to have published. Whenever possible, you should also send me contact details (business address, telephone, mobile, email, website url, and contact name) which you'd like included in the listing.

My only criteria is that, if your company is located outside of France, your products or services are aimed at the French market and the South of France in particular. While I have tried to make the A-Z Directory as complete as I can in respect to categories, it goes without saying that I will create a new one for you if your product or services cannot be "homed" in an existing one.

Please feel free to contact me either on my mobile (O6 09 32 96 14) or via This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you need further information or advice.

Julia Child: My Life in France

If, like me until recently, you had never knowingly heard of Julia Child, it will help to understand that she was, so to speak, America’s answer to Elizabeth David.  It was she who, after the second world war, introduced the dishes and techniques of French cooking to, principally, her countrywomen.  I had been aware of, but never read, her encyclopaedic work Mastering the Art of French Cooking, but could not have told you who had written it (or even that it was an American book).  In fact, Julia Child later parted company from Elizabeth David: while David went on to explore the cuisines of Italy and other Mediterranean countries, Child stuck to that of France but developed her teaching skills into pioneering television cookery programmes decades before they came to clog up our TV channels on a daily basis.

Sarah's Midnight Anthology

A year ago I introduced readers of this website to an old friend, Sarah Nock, who had written an insightful  –  and surprisingly funny  –  account of what it is like to suffer from Parkinson’s disease.  (My review of Ponderings on Parkinson’s is still on-site.)  Now she has published another book of a quite different kind: an anthology of verse, but one with a difference.
