The lovely setting of Café Latin in Valbonne was the rendez-vous point when I met with Carin Peirano and Sabine Karlberg of Azurplus Relocation as they took time out of their busy schedules to meet with me and talk about their company.

Carin has experience from the Swedish IT and educational industry; Sabine from the bank and finance industry with placements in Sweden, Japan and Switzerland. Apart from speaking French and English, they also speak Swedish and German. In short, they make a great working team and are interculturally aware.

Created in 2001 and located in Sophia-Antipolis, Azurplus aims to fill the serious gap in the market place for professional and customer-care relocation services.

Their goal is to assist newcomers to settle in as rapidly and easily as possible. To achieve this, they offer an extensive relocation package comprising of:

  • Home search
  • Utility connections
  • Opening a bank account
  • School registrations
  • Resident permits
  • Car registration
  • Insurances

Excellent contacts with local estate agents have enabled them to offer a special home search package for newcomers looking to either rent or buy property. Day-to-day relocation issues are handled deftly, thoughtfully and efficiently.

A free help-line for two months after relocation and an orientation tour of the region help make the initial transition period as easy and painless as possible.

While Azurplus’ client list is continually growing, with the latest addition of Amadeus, their portfolio already comprises of a number of other impressive companies such as Accenture, Allergan, Criston, SAP Labs and TREMA.

Another important aspect of their company is focusing on organizing corporate and private events.

Through their recent endeavours, Azurplus has established an ongoing collaboration with the Swedish Film Institute.

They have become property managers to the Swedish Film Institute’s beautiful sea-view apartment. Measuring 300m² and with a 150m² terrace it’s ideally located along the Croisette just 50 meters from the magnificent Noga-Hilton hotel. As such, they oversee its rental schedule for the many different congresses in Cannes, such as GSM, MIPIM, MIPTV and Cannes Lion.

And what of the future? As our meeting drew to a close, both Carin and Sabine voiced their intent to see Azurplus become more efficient, more customer-care orientated - and the number one leader in their line of business.

With such a dynamic duo at the helm, it’s hard not to see this happening.

Julia Child: My Life in France

If, like me until recently, you had never knowingly heard of Julia Child, it will help to understand that she was, so to speak, America’s answer to Elizabeth David.  It was she who, after the second world war, introduced the dishes and techniques of French cooking to, principally, her countrywomen.  I had been aware of, but never read, her encyclopaedic work Mastering the Art of French Cooking, but could not have told you who had written it (or even that it was an American book).  In fact, Julia Child later parted company from Elizabeth David: while David went on to explore the cuisines of Italy and other Mediterranean countries, Child stuck to that of France but developed her teaching skills into pioneering television cookery programmes decades before they came to clog up our TV channels on a daily basis.

Sarah's Midnight Anthology

A year ago I introduced readers of this website to an old friend, Sarah Nock, who had written an insightful  –  and surprisingly funny  –  account of what it is like to suffer from Parkinson’s disease.  (My review of Ponderings on Parkinson’s is still on-site.)  Now she has published another book of a quite different kind: an anthology of verse, but one with a difference.
