One Week On

E-mail Print PDF

After a very successful relaunch last Sunday of the newly designed AMB Cote d'Azur website, its been heart warming to read the pleasure people have had discovering its new features. Of course there are still a few things that need "tweaking" and a fair bit of work to do administratively "in the back-end" which I'll be doing over the coming weeks, but I think the website looks really great and much more inviting.

My greatest pleasure has been the introduction of video onto the site and my ability to show you this beautiful region through a different medium. It's also been fun for me to return to some of my favourite places and literally rediscover them. I'm presently working on a special video about the Promenade des Anglais in Nice which I'll be uploading next week onto the home page but this week, Bastille Day 2008 replaces the beautiful St Paul de Vence video that launched with the website.

If you've not had time, you may want to take a look at our AMB E-cards as this section is open to anyone who has taken some photos of this region and would like to share them with others. If you're tempted, then drop me an email with perhaps one or two 64Ox480 photos accompanied by a short description of when and where they were taken. Naturally I will assume you'll only send "clean" photos for publication as this website is also viewed by children.

We've also improved on our recipe section and this too is open to anyone who has a favourite Provençal or French recipe they would like to share. I still have a few of my own that I need to publish which means I'll be swopping my computer hat for a chef's one soon.  These past few months we've had the sheer enjoyment of eating breakfast, lunch and dinner outside by the pool, which is wonderful. To say that food tastes better when eaten outside is perhaps stating the obvious but it really does. A splash of warm Mediterranean sunshine, the sound of cicadas and a gentle breeze makes even the simplest of repas, a meal fit for a king.

And so, with the height of summer slowly slipping away and memories of summer holidays begin to fade, AMB Cote d'Azur will be here as your constant companion to remind you that a stunning region awaits your happy return.

Villa Le Rêve

For the past ten years Villa Le Rêve has been used as an artists’ house where art, cultural and creative activities, health and well-being courses are held throughout the year. As part of our research on Matisse and his life here on the Côte d'Azur, we contacted Joëlle Audry, Villa Le Rêve’s charming caretaker, and asked if we could visit his old home. Much to our delight she accepted and we arranged our visit.

Notre Dame de la Garoupe

If you’ve ever visited the Grimaldi Museum in Antibes and strolled along the narrow Promenade Amiral de Grasse that hugs the contours of the coastline down to Saint-André bastion and its archaeological museum, it’s a safe bet you would have noticed the verdant Cap d’Antibes peninsula - and one of France’s most powerful lighthouses (with a range of 70 kms for boats and 200 kms for planes) perched on top of La Garoupe Hill: Phare de La Garoupe.

They really do say 'oh la la'

It is in the nature of neighbours to squabble, and notwithstanding the official cordiality of the past 100 years, Anglo-French relations have been known to suffer sporadic minor ruptures. These are rather stimulating occasions, traditionally marked by name-calling and foot-stamping on both sides of the channel.
