Villa Le Reve
The Villa Le Rêve, where Matisse lived from 1943 to 1949, is today an artists' house full of charm, which allows artists to stay in a magnificent setting and in an atmosphere which encourages inspiration. Day courses and workshops available, from 2 days (weekends) to 5 days. Sketching, painting, sculpture, decoration but also health and well-being, personal development workshops, etc. The Villa le Rêve in Vence, French Riviera, south of France where Matisse lived from 1943 to 1949, is today a house full of charm, which offers to the people, individuals or professionals, the possibility to stay in a magnificent setting, in an atmosphere which encourages inspiration, rest, relaxation and concentration.

Henri Matisse appreciated the exceptional light, calm and nature. There he painted many of his most famous works, such as “Still Life with Pomegranates”. Situated scarcely ten minutes from the historic centre of Vence and at 100m from the “Chapelle du Rosaire” conceived by Henri Matisse, the Villa le Rêve, in colonial style, welcomes you with its tree filled garden of 2500 m² and its exceptional view across the old town, the sea and the hills overlooking Vence.

The Villa Le Rêve offers several possibilities to enjoy this wonderful charming place and add art and culture to tourism and leisure : holidays for individuals with family or friends, professionals, clubs, associations, art schools, teachers or therapists, hotels, firms, productions, tour-operators, for organisation of courses and workshops or thematic stays, cultural tours, for receptions, private parties, visits, conferences, cocktails and varnishing, exhibitions, special events, movies filming, photos shooting, etc.

Julia Child: My Life in France

If, like me until recently, you had never knowingly heard of Julia Child, it will help to understand that she was, so to speak, America’s answer to Elizabeth David.  It was she who, after the second world war, introduced the dishes and techniques of French cooking to, principally, her countrywomen.  I had been aware of, but never read, her encyclopaedic work Mastering the Art of French Cooking, but could not have told you who had written it (or even that it was an American book).  In fact, Julia Child later parted company from Elizabeth David: while David went on to explore the cuisines of Italy and other Mediterranean countries, Child stuck to that of France but developed her teaching skills into pioneering television cookery programmes decades before they came to clog up our TV channels on a daily basis.

Sarah's Midnight Anthology

A year ago I introduced readers of this website to an old friend, Sarah Nock, who had written an insightful  –  and surprisingly funny  –  account of what it is like to suffer from Parkinson’s disease.  (My review of Ponderings on Parkinson’s is still on-site.)  Now she has published another book of a quite different kind: an anthology of verse, but one with a difference.
