- The organization of cultural events Created in October 2001, the Association A.I.R. Vallauris, since April 2002, welcomes several artists at a given time for a period of two months in its residence and studio available to the artists. The creators using different mediums benefit from an equipped studio, independent furnished bedrooms and a gallery where their works are presented at the end of the residency period. The quality of the artistic creation is one of the major concerns or the program; the selection committee evaluates applicants based on their artistic experience, merit and project proposal. Since April 2002, over 60 creators of different nationalities have taken part in the program. The Association encourages and facilitates interaction between local artists and international artists. Workshops, conferences, demonstrations exhibitions are organized with the resident artists. These events are open to the public. Through partnerships with the local School of Fine Arts, the local government, and international organizations a sensibility of exchange between the public, artists, and international is realized.

Julia Child: My Life in France
If, like me until recently, you had never knowingly heard of Julia Child, it will help to understand that she was, so to speak, America’s answer to Elizabeth David. It was she who, after the second world war, introduced the dishes and techniques of French cooking to, principally, her countrywomen. I had been aware of, but never read, her encyclopaedic work Mastering the Art of French Cooking, but could not have told you who had written it (or even that it was an American book). In fact, Julia Child later parted company from Elizabeth David: while David went on to explore the cuisines of Italy and other Mediterranean countries, Child stuck to that of France but developed her teaching skills into pioneering television cookery programmes decades before they came to clog up our TV channels on a daily basis.
